Educating & Enriching Afghan Refugee Children in Pakistan

When refugee children are offered educational opportunities, they enthusiastically take them. That’s what we’ve learned through our partnership with AB Academy, an educational institution in Pakistan for Afghan refugee children. Established and run by Afghan refugees, AB Academy is dedicated to providing innovative teaching strategies and holistic student development. 

AB Academy’s curriculum fosters a supportive and engaging learning environment that encourages students to excel both academically and personally. We are proud to partner with an institution that values this balance because we know how crucial emotional literacy is to lifelong success. 

At AB Academy, students find support from patient and compassionate teachers. As Afghan refugees themselves, the teachers have a unique understanding of the gaps in education that displacement causes. These dedicated teachers are all too willing to help fill in those gaps through individualized support.

The school also acts as a safe haven for children. As they learn, they get to create community with other refugee children who also need a space to just be kids—a distraction from the uncertainty that comes with displacement.

AB Academy takes a unique approach by supporting personal development through a course designed to help students develop practical life skills and emotional intelligence. Topics range from financial literacy to interpersonal communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and emotional regulation. Through interactive lessons, case studies, and experiential learning, students learn how to navigate difficult real-life scenarios effectively and ethically. This approach emphasizes self-awareness and self-management while helping students discover their strengths, values, and aspirations. The goal of the course is to foster resilience, adaptability, and a sense of belonging, which are especially important for these students because of the upheaval they are experiencing as refugees.

In addition to education for children, AB Academy also offers basic literacy and computer courses for women who have not previously had access to education.

By focusing on the practical aspects of both academics and life, AB Academy hopes to make a lasting impact on the future of Afghan refugee children and their families.
