Rebuilding Herat After Tragedy

Last week, Uplift’s Executive Director, Ilaha Eli Omar, traveled to Afghanistan to visit with our local partners and see firsthand the progress of the many projects we've implemented with your support. Among the communities Ilaha visited was Parwana, where she attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the successful completion of the first phase of our ongoing project to rebuild Herat.

When earthquakes struck the province last fall, you stepped up to help us raise nearly $200,000 for families who lost their homes and loved ones. 100% of your support went directly to immediate emergency relief efforts (water reservoirs) and long-term recovery (rebuilding homes) for the affected communities.

A big thank you from our team at Uplift, our local partner, Community Driven Development Organization, and the families for whom you helped secure clean water and housing in the face of tragedy.

Rebuilding after a disaster takes support from a community of compassionate, dedicated people like you who understand that long-term resilience and recovery efforts require careful planning, time, and commitment to be truly effective.

Thanks to your support we've stayed the course because we believe that every child deserves a home—a safe place to live, grow, and share joy. You and your family know this just as well as the families of Parwana.

Together we've built 18 homes thus far. We are actively fundraising for 60 more homes to ensure every family gets the support they need.

$11,000 gives a whole family their life back while building lasting resilience and self-sufficiency for generations. Click here to donate.

A big shout out to our on-the-ground partner, Community Driven Development Organization, whose dedicated team works day in and day out to ensure this project is implemented safely, effectively, and always in line with the community's needs and values.

We also extend a special thank you to the Open Society Foundations, Choose Love, Afghan-American Community Organization, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, whose support has been integral to our efforts in Herat.
