Uplift Partners With CDDO To Bring Relief After Herat Earthquake Disaster

The western province of Herat in Afghanistan has been hit with yet another 6.3 magnitude earthquake—its third since powerful quakes on October 7 killed more than 2,000 people.

Entire villages have been leveled, thousands have lost their lives, and many more have been displaced. Our implementing partners on the ground have responded by sending volunteers from across the country to rescue people trapped in the rubble.

We are working to provide immediate relief (safe drinking water, sanitation, medical supplies & temporary shelter) and planning more permanent solutions.

Thanks to the compassion and generosity of our donors, we’ve been able to support emergency relief efforts over the last week and a half. In collaboration with one of our main partners on the ground, Community-Driven Development Council (CDDO), we’ve installed 20 water reservoirs across the villages in the Herat province. This video (PART 1 / PART 2) shows a glimpse into what we’ve been able to do so far and affirms the need to continue to assess community needs and create a plan for more permanent shelter for villagers before winter approaches.

Although we’ve been able to provide some relief, the suffering in this region is not over. If you’re able, please consider giving to Uplift by clicking here.
