Kitchen Gardening & Mushroom Cultivation Improves Food Security in Wardak Province, Afghanistan
We’re proud to partner with Sustainable Economic & Livelihood Development Organization (SELDO) to provide training in sustainable farming techniques to extremely vulnerable and disaster-affected families, many of whom are women-headed, in the Jaghato District of Wardak Province, Afghanistan.
Through this project, Uplift and our partner organization, SELDO, provided mushroom cultivation and kitchen gardening training courses, along with food packages, to vulnerable families. During these courses, women and men learned how to cultivate their own mushrooms and grow plants useful for cooking, like green onions, spinach, carrots, and turnips.
Kitchen gardens are a sustainable, low-cost, highly effective way to source fresh and nutritional food. The goal of this project is to provide training and resources to improve long-term food security in these vulnerable communities.
